CLASSES for Youth + Adults


Building on years of great summer theatre classes and productions,
WTF will continue to offer conservatory-style theatre education classes for youth,
while adding an adult education component by offering readings, workshops,
productions and other special events. Our core faculty includes performers,
designers, teachers,and playwrights all working together with top academic
credentials as well as professional experience.

Theatre is a great way to encourage self expression and creativity

for people of all ages. We invite you to join us on this fabulous and
fun journey toward growing great theatre.

FUNDAMENTALS - Youth Training

Stagecraft with Jenica Cerda and Tyler Raymond

Get “behind the scenes” training in technical theatre. This class will explore the fundamentals of stage lighting, set construction, stage management, and more. Students will have an opportunity to learn how to tech on the WICA and WCT stages – a great learning opportunity for young people.

Drama Camp I with Martha Murphy

Looking for some fun this summer? Join the Drama Camp! Play fun theater games, explore the dynamics of staging, create characters, and more. Drama Camp is a great opportunity for beginning and experienced drama students.

Drama Camp II with Martha Murphy

Theater is a great way to make friends, learn great skills, and have lots of fun. Join veteran drama teacher Martha Murphy in learning theater games, acting skills, and how to work together as a creative team. Showcase performance on the last day of class!

Island County Fair – Musical Theatre Showcase with Susan Vanderwood and Dana Linn

The annual Musical Theatre Showcase at the Island County Fair will give students the vocal and dance training they need in order to enjoy the colorful world of musical theatre. The students will participate in three performances on August 14 at the Island County Fair!

Claymation with Robert Randall

Learn the art of Stop-motion Animation with skilled Claymation artist Robert Randall. Students will create original characters from clay and use film and computer techniques to bring them to life.

INTENSIVES - Youth Training

Film Production Camp with Chris Douthitt

Back by popular demand! This class offers hands-on training in film production and film technique. Participants will work on an original film production and take home a DVD of their filmed work. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity.

Technique                                                                                 WICA

Students will spend mornings in technique and skill building classes. They will learn acting skills, ensemble building, how to create trust, and to approach text honestly. The goal of this conservatory is to provide young people with a high quality, innovative, participatory theatre arts education that is fun and engaging.

Rehearsal and Performance

Building on the skills developed in the morning, afternoons are dedicating to learning and rehearsing the shows. Students in “Twelfth Night” will be introduced to guest teachers in singing and movement as Eric leads them in putting the production on its feet. The students exploring “The Wrestling Season” will work on finding the core of the story, identifying theme, and bringing this drama to life with an emphasis on text analysis.

This summer, William Shakespeare’s beloved comedy “Twelfth Night” comes to life with a modern twist. A variety of musical numbers help tell the tale of mistaken identity and love among some of the most memorable characters Shakespeare has ever created. Cast size 26.

“The Wrestling Season” with Deana Duncan   Ages 14-18          WCT
Using only the setting of a wrestling mat, eight young people struggle with the destructive power of rumors and how others see them. The play is a metaphor for the conflicts, pressures, betrayals, and complex friendships experienced by most teenagers. Casting by audition or instructor approval. Parents must review script. Cast size 9.

WORKSHOPS AND CLINICS - Adult Training

Auditioning and Prepared Reading with Kate Godman

Work with professional actress and casting director, Kate Godman, as you learn how to make the best possible impression in a wide variety of audition situations. This course will cover classical and contemporary monologues, cold and prepared readings, interviews, preparation and audition-specific acting technique. Emphasis will be on auditions for stage. A great way to prepare for WICA’s 2008/2009 Season General Auditions in August!

An Introduction to the Alexander Technique with Lynne Compton

The hallmarks of the Alexander work are an easeful flow in movement; ever-increasing physical and vocal range and flexibility; development of clarity and presence; and expansion of creativity and spontaneity. Appropriate for beginning and continuing students, actors, dancers, musicians and anyone who wishes to move more mindfully. Learn to use your natural efficiency so that you can perform optimally. Lynne Compton is a certified teaching member of Alexander Technique International.

Spoken Word and Performance Poetry with Daemond Arrindell

Explore the art of performance poetry; engage in critique/analysis of past and present performers and poetic styles through text, video and audio samplings; find/develop/refine our own voices through writing exercises; and take written poems on the journey to become spoken word pieces/performance poems. Taught by Daemond Arrindell, Slammaster of the Seattle Poetry Festival.
