PROLOGUES.

A Prologue is a short introduction to a Theatre Series production. Prologues introduce characters, themes, language and other background information -- preparing patrons to get the most out of the playgoing experience.

STUDENT MATINEES.

If you are an educator, and would like to arrange an afternoon field-trip to WICA -- and to have your students attend a matinee of a Family Series presentation -- we would like to make that happen!

Please contact Stacie Burgua, Executive Director, at 360/221.8262 or by EMAIL for details.

WORKSHOPS.

THE BARBARA HATCH LEBERT DANCE ENDOWMENT.

The mission of the Barbara Hatch Le Bert Modern Dance Endowment is to expand, deepen, and encourage modern dance activity within the community of Whidbey Island. The fund was established in 1999 by her husband Gordon in her memory, and in recognition of Barbara’s efforts to establish Whidbey Island Center for the Arts and to promote appreciation for modern dance within the Whidbey Island community. The endowment is augmented by contributions in her memory.

Funds from the Endowment will be primarily awarded to local artists to:

Receive training, development, or education in modern dance. Funds can be used to cover tuition, travel, and related educational costs.

Or, secondarily to:
Support the creation, development, production, and presentation of a modern dance piece or concert. Annual scholarships of $1,000 or more are awarded; the amount based on scholarship request and available money.

2010/2011 Proposals are to be submitted to WICA by April 22, 2011. A committee comprised of WICA Board of Directors Scholarship Chair, the Executive Director, and three selected members of the arts and dance community, will review the proposals and determine awards based on the following criteria:

1. Promotion of modern dance
2. Clarity of proposal
3. Feasibility of project
4. Financial need
5. Community benefit

If there are no suitable applications in any given year the Committee will withhold an award, and those funds will remain in the Endowment. Only the annual interest earned by the Endowment shall be disbursed for scholarship awards.
