GLORIA! THE MANY MOODS OF CHRISTMAS.
The WICA Conservatory Choir and the Saratoga Chamber Orchestra share the stage and celebrate the season in an evening of holiday classics.
WICA Conservatory Choir directed by Robert W. Prosch
Saratoga Chamber Orchestra conducted by Legh W. Burns
"This collaborative effort between the Saratoga Chamber Orchestra and the WICA Conservatory Choir extends our original vision: to bring a seasonal flavor to
Whidbey Island
through music. The pieces are timeless and we feel privileged to be able to bring them to the community.
Each year we attempt to expand the Christmas offering, by including lesser-known pieces with traditional carols. This year's concert will feature the Conservatory Choir and the brass section of the orchestra in a performance of John Rutter's wonderful “Gloria.” It's a piece that has already found a place in the ‘must hear’ Christmas offerings.
The other major work is “The Many Moods of Christmas,” by Robert Shaw. This year we are presenting Suite II of the series of four Moods that Shaw has written. With the orchestration by Robert Russell Bennett, the Suite includes O Sanctissima, Joy to the World, Away in a Manger and Fum, Fum, Fum. The result alternates between the reflective and the joyous...a combination certain to instill the Christmas Spirit in all of us.” -- Legh Burns,
