Deja Blooze.
Deja Blooze, featuring vocalist, songwriter and guitarist David Gregor, will provide a two-hour presentation that they call "Chronicling the Blues." The event will primarily consist of music with brief narrative interludes that will put the blues in an historical context, regarding styles, language, events and social import. Accompanying David will be four of Langley's finest musicians -- David Licastro on guitar, Larry Neubauer on keyboards, Levi Burkle on bass guitar and David Gignac on harmonica.
Running time: TBA with one intermission
Recommended for ages 16 and above.
Deja Blooze grew out of David Gregor's love of blues music and its uniquely American method of storytelling. With the talents of various Whidbey Island players Deja Blooze emerged as a guitar and vocal duo in November 2007, playing local venues including The Rockhopper Café, the Prima Bistro, Choochokam, Useless Bay Coffee Shed, Concerts on the Lane, The Edge Cliff Restaurant and various private events. The first Deja Blooze CD, "Blues for Two" was released in December 2008. A second CD of originals songs written by vocalist David Gregor is currently in the works. Deja Blooze performs a lively repertoire of original and traditional acoustic and electric blues with an emphasis on an up-tempo interpretation of delta inspired roots music.
Music does not exist in a void or without a historical context, and the blues genre is no exception. Bluesman John Cephas once said, "Blues music isn't sad-it's the cure for being sad," and it is in this context that we will approach our evening of "Chronicling the Blues." Deja Blooze, featuring David Gregor and friends, will provide a two-hour musical presentation that will be punctuated with brief historical anecdotes that will put blues music, its subject matter, and its language in perspective.
The program will begin with the simplest form of one man, one voice in the form of a field holler and progress with one instrument, two voices and two voices on up to multiple instruments and voices. While the event will primarily consist of music, some of the narrative interludes will address where the blues derived from, the language employed to express the conditions of African Americans in the rural south, and the purposes the blues served not only as a means of expression but also as a source of healing.

The Artists
David Gregor played in his first rock 'n roll band at 16, as a drummer, heavily influenced by the British invasion and its blues infused RnR. After a thirty year hiatus from playing music, David revisited the guitar and singing in 1998 and began digging deeper into the roots of American blues music through players like Robert Johnson, Lightning Hopkins, Willie Dixon, Jimmy Reed and Howlin' Wolf.
